Ricevendo il segretario generale del Consiglio per l’Unità Economica Araba, il ministro della Giustizia iracheno ha spiegato che le misure adottate negli uffici del catasto contro il riciclaggio rientrano nella strategia anticorruzione del governo.

Iraq’s Minister of Justice, Dr Khalid Shwani, received at his office Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, and Ambassador Ahmed Abbas Al-Hasani, President of the Arab Union for Combating Forgery and Counterfeiting, together with their delegation.

Dr Shwani explained that the Ministry of Justice is a member of the Supreme Committee for Combating Money Laundering, and that the measures adopted in real-estate registration offices, such as requiring bank notification for property sales above 500 million dinars, relying on electronic documentation and transactions, and regulating sales and purchases, form part of the government’s strategy against corruption, thanks to which Iraq has left the “grey area” classification as certified by Transparency International.

He added that draft amendments to the real-estate registration and real-estate brokerage laws had been submitted to the State Council for review before referral to the executive and legislative authorities. Their adoption would place Iraq among the advanced countries in combating money laundering, in step with the major strides made towards transparency. The possibility of Iraq joining the Arab arbitration body was also discussed.
