En recevant plusieurs entreprises égyptiennes, le président de la Commission nationale des investissements d’Irak a réaffirmé le soutien du pays aux sociétés et investisseurs arabes.

Receiving a delegation of Egyptian companies led by Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, the head of Iraq’s National Investment Commission, Dr Haider Mohammed Makiya, affirmed that Iraq supports the presence of Arab investment companies and investors and offers them all the facilities and guarantees provided by Investment Law No. 13 of 2006, as amended.

Dr Makiya said the meeting followed the recent visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to Cairo and the visit of Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister to Baghdad, and praised the expertise of Egyptian companies in infrastructure, housing, bridges and electricity. Investment in Iraq has taken a new direction through new models that raise the level of services for citizens, he said, with investments of around 69 billion dollars realised between the start of 2023 and mid-2024. He invited Egyptian companies to the Iraq Investment Forum in early November, where around 100 opportunities across all sectors will be presented.

The head of the delegation said Iraq’s investment law is among the most successful thanks to its guarantees and facilities, and that the League of Arab States supports investment in Iraq, which has become attractive to investors owing to its economic openness, security stability and exit from the grey list. The delegation expressed its wish to invest in Iraq. The President of the Arab Union for Combating Forgery and Counterfeiting and members of the Arab Court of Arbitration attended on the Egyptian side, together with MP Mohammed Al-Ziyadi, member of the parliamentary investment and development committee, and the Commission’s directors general.
